SCHOOL BOARD VACANCY NOTICE:
Mattoon Community Unit School District #2 Board of Education
Mattoon CUSD2 is seeking candidates for a Board of Education appointment to fill a vacancy created by the November 8 resignation of Gary Kepley.
“We are extremely grateful for Gary’s service to our students, staff and the residents of the Mattoon community,” said Dale Righter, school board president.
The individual selected to fill the Board vacancy will serve as a board member until the next regular school board election in April 2025.
To be eligible, the Board member must be, on the date of appointment, a United States citizen, at least 18 years of age, a resident of Illinois and the District and a registered voter.
Reasons making an individual ineligible for Board membership include holding an incompatible public office, certain types of State or federal employment, and having a prohibited interest in any contract with the District. Child sex offenders, as defined in Section 11-9.3 of the Criminal Code, are ineligible for Board membership.
Membership on the Board is restricted to a maximum of three (3) members from any one township. Because three current school board members live in Lafayette Township, the appointee of the unexpired term may not live in Lafayette Township.
The Board has 60 days to fill the Board vacancy. The Board’s policies regarding school board service, elections, and filling vacancies are available on the District’s board page.
Qualified candidates may pick up an application form beginning Monday, November 13, 2023, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the Administrative Service Center located at 1701 Charleston Avenue, Mattoon, Illinois.
Applications must be received no later than 4:00 p.m. on Monday, November 20, 2023. After screening the applications, the Board may invite prospective candidates for interviews during a closed session at a special board meeting. The appointee will be seated by the board at the regular board meeting on December 12, 2023.
