The Mattoon Middle School Reading Committee recently announced Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation by Stuart Gibbs as the 23rd annual Read Across Mattoon book. The announcement was made during the February 11, 2025, school board meeting.
The book, the first in its series, follows 12-year-old genius Charlie Thorne as she is recruited by the CIA to track down Einstein’s last equation, Pandora, which has the potential to change—or destroy—the world. Racing against dangerous enemies, Charlie must use her intelligence and skills to solve the mystery before it falls into the wrong hands.
Read Across Mattoon encourages community members to read the book along with middle schoolers to help promote literacy. Individuals can pick up a copy in the Mattoon Middle School office or at the Mattoon Public Library.
