The MMS Girls Basketball Team plans to hold tryouts on Wednesday, August 30th - Friday, September 1st. Coaches are currently working on a schedule of specific times by grade level which will be announced at a later date. If you have a child interested, they must be registered on Snap 8to18 and must have a current physical on file before trying out! Car Seat Inspections by Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be taking place on September 18 from 4:00 -6:00 p.m. at the LIFT building. This event is part of Illinois Child Passenger Safety Week, September 17-23. Contact Katrina Farris at 217-238-8906 with any questions.

The Greenwave Battalion Corps of Cadets is putting on a car wash Saturday, August 19th from 8:00 - 2:00 p.m. Proceeds will go towards the American Cancer Society. The Cadets will be located on the corner of 19th & Broadway in KC Summer's Dealership.

The MHS Chess Team will hold an informational meeting on Thursday, August 17th at 6:00 p.m. in Room 221. This meeting is for both guardians and students. Please bring a Chromebook to the meeting. Please park on the West side of MHS and enter at Entrance 4. Some snapshots from New Teacher Orientation which took place over a span of four days in mid-July. We are so happy and proud to welcome over 20 new teachers to the district this year!

A quick reminder that Franklin, our elementary schools, and MMS are all hosting their Orientation/Open Houses this week. Be sure to also save the date for the MHS Parent Academy Open House on September 6th.

We appreciate your patience & understanding on the roads as students return to school this week! Please review these school bus safety rules, be aware of school zones, and prepare to encounter student drivers. The 2023-24 school year begins Wednesday, August 16 ( 1-12th grade).

Come "Meet the Greenwave" on Friday, August 18th from 5:25-8:25 PM! This event will be held on the Football Field/Track. 🎉 Each athletic team will play a scrimmage/challenge during their allotted time slot. Please come out to support our Greenwave athletes! 👏 The Pride of Greenwave Marching Band will also be performing! 🥁 For admission, we ask that you please bring a bottle of Gatorade or water. 🥤

Youth Soccer registration for 4th and 5th graders opens on August 18th. If you have students in that age group that are interested, be sure to get their physicals as soon as possible! 📑 The actual season will begin on September 5th. More details to come! ⚽️

Students are invited to participate in a Chromebook Exchange! 💻 Grades 3-12 can either exchange their old Chromebook & charger for a new device OR purchase their old device for $25 and receive a new device. Cash or checks can be made payable to MCUSD2. 💸 MMS students will have the opportunity to exchange tomorrow (Friday, August 11th) from 11:30 - 1:00 PM. If your student is unable to attend, they will exchange their Chromebook the first week of school. 🏫 Grades 3-5 and MHS students can also participate in the exchange at the beginning of the school year. 🧑‍🏫 Email mattoontech@mcusd2.com for questions and more information. 📧

Save the Date for Elementary Orientation & the Franklin Preschool Open House! Elementary Orientation will be held for grades 1-5 on Tuesday, August 15th from 6:00-7:30 PM at Williams and Riddle. Kindergarten Orientation will be scheduled by appointment on August 15th & 16th. Parents and guardians will receive a letter in the mail including their appointment time and their child's teacher. At the orientation, students will meet their teacher, see their classroom, and get a preview of the year! Please call the main office with any questions. The Franklin Preschool Open House will be held on Thursday, August 17th, from 6:00-7:30 PM. Tour the school, meet the teachers, and take a ride on a school bus!
