On Saturday, September 10th, the MHS Pride of the Greenwave Marching Band participated in the Arcola Broomcorn Festival Parade. We are so proud of their skills and dedication! Check out some photos from the event.

Riddle Elementary students continue to work hard on their school homecoming float. Students in Mr. Niemerg's art class, who finished their assigned work, helped to paint some glowing signs for the parade this past week. Excitement is in the air for the HOCO parade this Wednesday (9/21)!

This past Thursday was the first Learning Walk of the year. During Learning Walks, some of our staff and administration take tours throughout our different schools and are guided by students. While there, they get to visit various rooms to discover how students are learning and leading. Pictured are the learning walk guides from Williams Elementary. They did a wonderful job!

The 7th grade Ag classes at MMS have been working on a seed-saving unit learning how saving seeds can save money and be beneficial for future years.

Kinnaman's First Grade class at Williams Elementary, they read, "The Giant Jam Sandwich", in which a town gets invaded by wasps and community members must work together to create a trap. Afterwards, students collaborated with their peers to create and name their own wasp traps! The entire class synergized and some amazing ideas came to life!

The 2021-2022 MHS Yearbooks will not be available for pick up until October.
For the 2022-2023 yearbooks, senior pictures need to be sent in by December 2nd at 4:00 PM.

Briggs Whitley, 8Blue student at MMS, represented MMS at the IESA Boys Sectional F Golf Event on Thursday, September 8th at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Paris, IL.
Leading up to the event, Briggs worked with his father, Chris Whitley (who also served as a volunteer observer at the IESA event) to find his swing. He went into play on Thursday confident, and he finished in the middle of the pack, 33rd out of 58 golfers. Briggs was coached for the day by a former MHS Golf Coach and RES Staff member, Jordan Coleman.
We appreciate Briggs representing Mattoon Middle School as our sole participant this year, and we look forward to following his golf career as he moves on to MHS next year!

Green and Gold Day will take place on Friday, September 23. Students will be taking part in community service projects together throughout the community.

Mrs.Matteson's class at MMS are enriching themselves in kindness and community work. They painted kindness rocks and put it in the Hannah Mansell Memorial garden. Mrs Matteson is teaching her kids a very important message and helping her memory live on.
