Students and staff will be receiving the books the first day after spring break on April 19th. Students will be reading chapters throughout the school week culminating with a family night on May 5th. The Kindness Cafe is a group of students at Riddle Elementary that meet twice a week to discuss ways they can spread kindness and serve others throughout the school and community. This is a first-year student ran and operated group, facilitated by multi-age teacher Mrs. Simpson. Students brainstormed "Dollar Drop Days" where each month money is raised for a different place in the community. The place selected each month is voted on by the entire school. For February, $150 was raised and went to the Mattoon Police Department. Pictured is Officer Kasey Alexander accepting the check from the Kindness Cafe. "I absolutely LOVE these projects with these kids. I have found great joy in taking a step back and letting the kids take the reins to plan, organize, brainstorm, etc. every step of the way. I am literally just a guide on the side to step in if they need me. To say I am proud of those kids is an understatement. All the credit goes to them. It is such a pleasure to watch them blossom as leaders." - Mrs. Simpson We are so proud of the Kindness Cafe and the kids who are using their talents and strengths to lead and serve. #MCUSD2 #Mattoon #RiddleElementary #KindnessCafe

These MMS wrestlers are showing off their hardware! Tristan Porter placed 6th in the State Class AA 100lb bracket and Mitchell Clapp won 2nd in the State AA 185lb bracket. We had 5 wrestlers (Holden Barr, Mitchell Clapp, Akeem Dailey, Brayden Daily, and Tristan Porter) make it to state and we are very excited and proud of their accomplishments this season! #MCUSD2 #Mattoon #MMS #StateWrestling

Shout out to Nevaeh in Mrs. Titus's Preschool class! She was the first to complete the March Dr. Seuss reading challenge. Some of the tasks required were to read a book in the bath, in the dark, under a table, or with a friend, with a stuffed animal, wearing a hat, or read while having a snack! Congrats Nevaeh, we are proud of you! #MCUSD2 #Mattoon #FranklinPreK

Some fun snaps celebrating St. Patrick's Day last week in Mrs. Koop's All Day Class at Franklin Preschool. The kids built a trap and then the leprechaun destroyed their room, but.... left them clues for a sweet treat. :) #MCUSD2 #Mattoon #FranklinPrek #StPatricks

We want to give a shoutout to our very own Amanda Aydt who just found out she was named the IBCA Coach of the Year! This is Amanda's third time receiving this award - once in 2017 and again in 2020. We are so grateful to have her coaching in our district. Here's a comment from Amanda... “I am very honored and humbled to receive this award. There are a lot of great coaches. I am truly blessed and grateful to receive this honor. This wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for a lot of people who helped me get here. I would like to thank God. He should get all the glory. I would like to thank my husband, Brendan, and my children Maria (5), Conor (3), and Luke (11 months) for all of their support, my Mom and Dad, my brother Brett, and all of my family who have always supported me throughout the years. I would also like to thank all the coaches I’ve played for and worked with over the years, and my assistant coaches Troy Haacke and Anthony Hupp for all of their help. Thanks to Mr. Vieth and all the administrators for giving me the opportunity to coach here in the Mattoon school district. I would like to thank all my players for all of their hard work and dedication. The players are the ones who came to practice ready to work hard every day. They all did their jobs and executed our game plans. So I have to give credit to the players. This is a team award.” We'd also like to say congrats to Mallory Rampage for receiving 3A-First Team-All State! Check out some photos and headlines from this year's Girls Basketball season. Thanks to Coles County Sports for helping capture these special moments. #MCUSD2 #Mattoon #MHS #GirlsBasketball #CoachOfTheYear

Mrs. Titus's class at Franklin Preschool set a classroom WIG (Wildly Important Goal) to read 2,000 books. They voted on their reward for reaching that goal and decided on a PJ party. Not only did they reach their goal, but they also surpassed it by SEVERAL HUNDRED books! Last week students got to have their PJ party and also received extra playtime and a special snack that was provided by a parent! We are so proud of these kiddos and how they are going above and beyond! #MCUSD2 #Mattoon #FranklinPrek
