Mattoon Community Unit School District 2 is devastated by the heartbreaking loss of one of our Mattoon High School students, Gavin Waterman. Our staff and our students are deeply saddened over this and our thoughts and condolences go out to the family members and friends of the student during this difficult time.
Support services will be available for students and staff at each of our buildings throughout the coming weeks. We want our students to know we are here to help them process through whatever feelings they may be dealing with. Guidance counselors, social workers, psychologists, and administration are available to provide counseling services and support to students and staff in need.

Funeral services honoring Gavin’s life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Mattoon High School, 2521 Walnut Ave, with Pastor Josh Butler officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at Mattoon High School. Burial will follow at Dodge Grove Cemetery.
