Last week, Mattoon CUSD #2 held a 3-day new teacher orientation where teachers were introduced to key personnel, district goals, policies, and procedures. The new teachers were also paired with mentors who worked with them to set up their classrooms, gather instructional materials, review procedures, and talk about instructional practices.
The orientation provides new teachers with a chance to become acclimated to their new environment without feeling "alone."
The orientation is part of the district's "Supporting New Teachers' Success" Program approved by the Illinois State Board of Education.
