Mattoon Rotary recognizes one Senior male and female at their monthly luncheon as Students of the Month.  

Students are nominated by Mattoon High School staff and the selection criteria includes outstanding academic achievement and citizenship.  Rotary Student of the Month for November winners are Ash Allison and Daniel Catt. 

Ash is the daughter of Janette and Joseph Allison. She is the leader of the MHS Spectrum Club for 3 years, and has been a member of Spectrum since her freshman year. Ash has been involved in the MHS Leadership Lighthouse team for 4 years as well. She is a part of Greenwave Singers and was recently accepted into ILMEA, a state choir. Ash has been a part of the drama club for 3 years. With over 750 volunteer hours with Douglas Hart, Ash has helped out with their summer camps and working the front desk.

After graduation Ash plans to attend EIU and major in K-12 music education.

Daniel is the son of Beth and Lucas Catt.  He is the Low Brass Section Leader for MHS Concert Band, and Low Winds Section Leader for the MHS Marching Band.  Daniel is also 1st Chair Trombone for Jazz Band, as well as a member of the Community Band and Jazz Combo.  Daniel also regularly helps his elderly neighbor with various tasks. During the election on November 5th, he was a student election judge and helped run the Lafayette precinct election location.

After graduation, Daniel plans to attend college to study music technology/performance. He is undecided at this time on what college he will attend. Daniel plans to keep up with most of the ensembles he is a part of and look for new opportunities within the community he ends up in.
