Students at MMS attended the 31st Annual 8th Grade Career Conference at Lake Land College on March 31st. The conference provides students with information and motivation as they begin to develop their career plans. Students were able to directly interact with loyal Career Professionals to learn about skills and education required by occupation. The featured speaker this year was career development expert, Brooks Harper.
Students interviewed three career professionals, one from each of their top three career clusters. This information was provided after they completed the "Career Cruising Assessment", in which students filled out a survey that provided them with several potential options for career clusters based on their answers.
After the conference, students reviewed the ISBE Career Guide that looked at career clusters, the education needed for jobs within these clusters, possible salary, and the potential need for these careers in Illinois within the next ten years.
