The Mattoon Wavettes and Purrfections will be heading to IDTA Dance State on Saturday, February 10, 2024. State is held in Springfield at the Bank of Springfield Center. Competition will begin at 7:30 am and awards are scheduled for 9:45 pm. The Mattoon school district will be competing with 8 routines total. Natalie Forsythe and Stella Rankin will perform their State title holding solos as well. Anyone not able to make the competition but wanting to tune in can subscribe to the live feed through Mr. Video. Help us wish them the best of luck! 🥳👯♀️

The first Riddle vs. Williams Youth Basketball competition was held on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Riddle came out on top in both the boys and girls games. 🎉
Youth Athletics is offered to our 4th and 5th graders at both Williams and Riddle Elementary Schools. Basketball season runs through February 15th and serves as an introduction to the sport, during which students learn and improve on the basic skills. 🏀
Mattoon High School had their Winter MAP Incentive on February 1st. Students who met or exceeded their projected growth target on all 3 MAP assessments for January got to order a Ginger Ale’s drink. We had 103 students who earned the incentive! 🥤
Recently, our Birth to Three Home Visitors and students from LIFT helped to stuff Crib Bags at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital. Inside the bags are books that were provided by the Kiwanis Club of Mattoon for every newborn child and their family to start their early literacy journey. The Spring Rotary High School Athletic Heart Screening Event will take place on Saturday, March 2nd from 8:00 a.m. to noon at The Heart Center at SBL in Mattoon. Each year, the Mattoon CUSD #2 School District and the Department of Early Childhood offer parents the opportunity to discover how their child is developing in the areas of speech, language, concepts, and motor skills. This is done through Preschool Round Up - free developmental screenings for 2 to 5-year-olds. Vision and hearing screenings are also provided, free of charge. 👶👧

The MHS Chess Team finished the Mattoon Sectional with a record of 3-1 on Saturday, January 27th. The team qualified for the IHSA State Chess Tournament that will be held at the Peoria Civic Center on February 9th and 10th and will go to State with a record of 20-7-1. ♟
Mrs. Ruppert and Ms. McCoy's classes at Williams Elementary School recently participated in a blanket-making and donation project for The Haven. This project was dreamed up by Mrs. Ruppert's 2nd graders, and they graciously invited Ms. McCoy's class to join in on the project. 🌟 🤝 🎉
After generous donations from students' families, the students worked to cut and tie over 65 blankets to donate to The Haven! 💖 We are so proud of them for seeing a need and using their leadership to make such a positive impact in our community. It is undeniable proof that even our youngest leaders can make a HUGE difference! 👧👦
Chris Davis from he Haven expressed gratitude, saying,, "We are extremely thankful for the blanket donation, the passion, and kindness shown. I truly believe these young people are world changers, and I appreciate their authenticity." 🙏

The Ag Food Science class at MHS recently had a freeze dryer installed! They have been using it daily. Students are learning about food preservation, food regulations, and copyright rules. Of course, students also get the benefit of testing out their work! 😋

Due to inclement weather producing slick road conditions, Mattoon CUSD #2 Schools will be closed Monday, January 22, 2024. This includes all sessions at LIFT Central Illinois. There will be no e-Learning.
A decision will be made by noon determining whether practices and other extracurricular events will be postponed. Coaches will notify the students.
As a result of this emergency day, Wednesday, May 22, 2024 will now be a student attendance day.
MHS Drama presents Winter One Acts this Friday at MHS in room 509. The first show will run 5:30-7:00 p.m. and the second show will run from 7:30-9:00 p.m. Tickets are $10.
