Jen Sledge from the Mattoon Post Office recently visited Ms. Kimery's Kindergarten class at Riddle Elementary! She read the kids "The Jolly Postman", showed them her uniform and mailbag, and played a game. The class has been meeting community helpers and learning more about their jobs.

Students from Mattoon Middle School recently visited Franklin Preschool and were able to visit with students on the playground.






Students at Williams Elementary School recently enjoyed the Spring Scholastic Book Fair.




Riddle Elementary students have been busy learning how to build with clay. Students in every grade have an opportunity to work with clay. Pictured are students from Mr. Wheeler's fourth-grade class.


Over 500 MHS students recently qualified for the positive incentive movie day! Movie options included "Creed III", "Champions", and "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania".
Students that met the positive incentive of maintaining 80% or higher of their point total qualified for the movies. Points can be earned daily through attendance, no discipline referrals, and a weekly GPA of 3.5 or higher.






Mattoon Police Officer Devin Patterson recently came to speak to the Kindergarten & K/1 Multiage students at Riddle Elementary as part of their community helpers unit. He taught the students about his job as an officer and introduced us to his K9 partner, Bane. Bane had some amazing tricks the students enjoyed! Thank you, Officer Patterson!


Cheer Tryouts for 2023-2024 will be held April 12- 14 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM in the MHS North Gym. Candidates should be registered on 8to18. Candidates should have a current physical on file in the MHS athletic office. Get all the details with the link below:

MMS now has a Chess Club! The club has grown considerably and they now have Wednesday and Friday morning meetings. The hope is that by next year, they can compete against other schools. Way to go Wildcats!


The Birth to 3 Program recently held their March family night where sensory exploration and Dr. Seuss were the themes. The families enjoyed listening to a story, playing with balloons, exploring the sand, and playing in the ball pits. On the way out the door, each child received a book and a snack to take home. We want to thank all the families who came to the event!











The Mattoon HS Boys & Girls Track traveling to Greenville Invite on Saturday (4/1) is cancelled. There is no makeup date.

JV Baseball scheduled for 3:00 at MHS is cancelled
Varsity Baseball DH scheduled for 11:00 am has been moved to 4/3/23 AT Baker Field in Charleston. Game time is 4:00 pm. Bus time is 2:30 pm.

The MHS Drama Club presents "The Lightning Thief" tonight and tomorrow night (March 30th & 31st) at 7:00pm in the MHS Gym. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students. Don't forget to stop by the MHS Art Show/Sale on the way into the show!
The Lightning Thief is a book by Joe Tracz with Music & Lyrics by Rob Rokicki and adapted from the book "The Lightning Thief" by Rick Riordan.





The Birth to 3 Program recently received a donation of books from EIU Child Care Resource and Referral for the initiative with Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital where every newborn baby receives a book to take home. Thank you EIU CCRR for your donation!


The Mattoon Greenwave Winter Guard will be performing their competition show "Home" for friends and family in the Mattoon High School North Gym at 7:00 PM this evening (3/30).
The team has been working hard and will be leaving for the MCCGA Winter Guard Championships in Springfield, MO on Friday, March 31. The guard is under the direction of Allison Lawrence and Courtney StJohn. Best of luck Greenwave!

JV Baseball vs Charleston scheduled for 4/1/23 will be played AT Mattoon HS Baseball Field at 3:00 pm
Due to adverse field conditions at Grimes, JV Baseball vs Salem on 4/3/23 will be played at Lake Land College at 4:30 pm.
