*Wednesday WIGs Student Takeover* Hey! I'm Isabella Compton and I'm a student at MMS in 7th grade. One of my favorite things we do at school is WIGs! WIGs are wildly important goals for all. Our principal, Mr. Pugh, has displayed his personal WIG to encourage others to reach for their WIGS. His goal is to be in the halls during transition times 80% of the time to be there for his students. My personal WIG is to read a book of a different genre by Spring Break! Right now, I'm enjoying A Good Girls Guide to Murder by: Holly Jackson. #MCUSD2 #Mattoon #MMS #WednesdayWIGs #WildlyImportantGoals

Mrs. Hawbaker, twelve of her students, and Ms. Craig at Riddle Elementary have decided to participate in the 3,000 squats challenge in April for the children's heart foundation to support congenital heart failure. They will be doing 90 squats at school each day with homework of 10 each night and 100 each day on the weekends to get 3,000 squats a piece for the month of April! Mrs. Hawbaker is sponsoring each kid that completes the challenge for $5. The kids and teachers are building teamwork, creating comradery, working for a bigger cause, and learning dedication and commitment to support congenital heart failure in babies and children. Here is a picture of the team, they are calling themselves, Heart Squatters, with their very own trackers. Best of luck to all those doing the challenge! #MCUSD2 #Mattoon #RiddleElementary

Mrs. Minger at the Mattoon Middle school is asking for greeting card donations. They do not need to be entire cards, just the front. She is planning on having students create DIY greeting card journals after Spring Break. You can drop off donations at the MMS Office or the Mattoon Public Library. #MCUSD2 #Mattoon #MMS

Riddle students have organized a canned food drive running through April 8th. The students chose a theme for each day, but will gladly accept all varieties of items each day. Students have placed collection boxes in each grade-level hallway. Their goal is to deliver 1000 items to the Mattoon Food Bank at the end of the week. We hope you will join us in supporting this community service project. This promotional poster was created by Aiden, a student in 4th grade. #MCUSD2 #Mattoon #RiddleElementary #CannedFoodDrive

It's National School Librarian Day and National Library Week and our celebration of Mattoon District Librarians continues. We want to say thank you to Mrs. Minger who works at Mattoon Middle School. " I never feel like I am coming to work, as my job is so wonderful and I love it so much that it never feels like "work". I LOVE our students here so much and try to learn every single kiddos name so when they come into the Media Center I can call them by name! I want each and every student who comes into the Media Center to feel like it is a safe place where they are loved and cared for and valued. We always have fun things happening in the Media Center - like a spring egg hunt or a collaborative puzzle or collaborative coloring pages, or DIY Projects. I just visited a few public libraries this week that have awesome Maker Spaces, so I will begin implementing new things in the library to meet that need as well!" - Mrs. Minger #MCUSD2 #Mattoon #MMS
