It's National School Librarian Day and National Library Week and our celebration of Mattoon District Librarians continues. Next up, we want to say thank you to Mrs. Hettinger who works at Williams Elementary School.
"I am so fortunate to be a part of the Williams Elementary School family! My favorite part of being the Librarian is that I get to see everyone in the entire building every week. I get to help them find just the book/author that can transport them to magical, far-off places. The best part of my day is when a student finds something new they are excited about. I also love seeing students outside of the school walls and they tell me about a book they are reading. Our One Book One School project has already kicked off with a bulletin board that has clues about this year's selection. Every day we reveal a new clue. The books will be distributed the day we come back from spring break. One book goes to each household, thanks to a grant from the Howell Asphalt Family Foundation. We look forward to this project each year. We will conclude the book with a celebration at our Title One Family Night being held on May 5th this year." - Mrs. Hettinger

It's National School Librarian Day and National Library Week and our celebration of Mattoon District Librarians continues. Next up, we want to say thank you to Mrs. Muzzy who works at Riddle Elementary School.
"I have been running Riddle Elementary School Library since the school opened in the fall of 2003. I may be biased, but our library is the most beautiful room in the school! I love helping students and staff find just the right books to learn from and enjoy. Our students recently voted in the Illinois Readers Choice Elections. Students in K-3 read from the Monarch Nominated Books, and grades 4-5 read the Bluestem Books. There are so many great books it can be a difficult choice! We recently took a group of students to Barnes and Noble to help select books for our library, and now are gearing up for the Battle of the Books for our upper elementary students. Each and every day is a new adventure in the library." - Mrs. Muzzy

This week is National Library Week and today is also National School Librarian Day. Today we will be highlighting the Librarians in our District to show our thankfulness for all they do for our kids!
First up, we want to say thank you to James Sledge who works at Mattoon High School.
"As Covid protocols have lightened, the library has been busier than ever. We have a steady stream of students all day, every day. The kids come to the library to work on coursework, to meet with Learning Lab teachers, to check out books and read, or occasionally enjoy games with classmates. We have several chess boards including one 8’ by 8’ MEGA chess set. Even though we’ve entered the digital age, one to one technology with Chromebooks, the kids have checked out physical books by the hundreds this year. We provide them with the newest titles as well as old favorites. If we don’t have what they’re looking for we can get it for them. I’ve really enjoyed and appreciated having the kids return and seeing their faces and knowing that they still love the library." - James Sledge

Happy National Library Week! This week we celebrate our school libraries and all of our Liberians.
Mr. Enyart's 6th-grade students completed a “brain dump” this week on the tables in the MMS Media Center.
Students read a book together and at the end of a section, Mr. Enyart asked them about one topic and they “dumped their brains” and wrote everything they remembered about that topic on the dry-erase tables!
We love having these tables - so much fun!
