Each year, the Mattoon CUSD #2 School District and the Department of Early Childhood offer parents the opportunity to discover how their child is developing in the areas of speech, language, concepts, and motor skills. This is done through Preschool Round Up - free developmental screenings for 2 to 5-year-olds. Vision and hearing screenings are also provided, free of charge. 👶👧

Big thanks to Bub at 101.3 WMCI, who recently interviewed some of our Birth to 3 staff to chat about their upcoming Mom's Night Out event that will take place on May 23 at LIFT from 5-7 for families enrolled in Birth-3 and Little Leaders. 🎉👩👧👦
Moms will be able to create a spa basket and enjoy refreshments. Childcare will be provided and fifty gift baskets will be raffled off at the end of the evening! 🎁🎨👧

Join MHS Winterguard for Family and Friends night on Thursday April 4th. They will be performing their 2024 Winterguard show entitled "It's Just Another Wolf" before they head off to compete in the circuit Championships on April 6th in Springfield MO. 🐺
On Saturday, March 16th, MMS Band and Choir students traveled to St. Anthony Grade School to compete in the IESA Solo and Ensemble. The students had a very successful day, with 20 band performances and all 6 choir performances earning a 1 rating and 2 band performances earning a 2 rating. Two band students, Rachel Catt and Meagan Moore, were also awarded "Best of Day" in their performance rooms for their brass solos. We are very proud of the hard work and dedication shown by these MMS music students! 🎼

Riddle Kindergarten students recently learned about community helpers which included welcoming special guests from the Mattoon Fire Department, Dr. Myles Hastings, and Denise Porter from the Public Library. We would like to extend our thanks for their visit! 🚒📚🦷
Mattoon CUSD #2 is excited to announce it has recently received a $10,000 Safety Grant through the Illinois Counties Risk Management Trust (ICRMT). This grant will provide funding for the installation of new security cameras throughout various locations on school premises.
The Safety Grant, underscores the importance of prioritizing safety measures within educational environments.

Twenty-six 4th and 5th grade students from Riddle and Wiliams Elementary Schools recently enjoyed a field trip to Barnes and Noble in Champaign to select books for their school libraries. These students worked hard to earn a spot on this coveted trip by been reading Bluestem books. While there, students toured the store, saw the latest published children's books, and picked out books for their fellow readers back in Mattoon. To finish the day, students enjoyed ice cream at Dairy Queen. It was a great day a day of shopping, ice cream, and laughter! 📚🛍️🍦
The Mattoon Middle School Scholastic Bowl team competed in the Crestwood Classic Scholastic Bowl Tournament on Thursday, March 14th. The team earned a 3-1 record at the event, with victories over Shiloh, Chrisman, and Charleston to capture 3rd place. Several Mattoon High School Chorus students attended the Solo and Ensemble Contest at Heritage High School in Broadlands, Illinois on Saturday, March 2nd. The students performed a variety of solos and duets ranging from classical and folk tunes to contemporary and musical theater. MHS Choir received 11 first place rankings and 1 second place ranking. The students are under the direction of Mr. Zach Smith and were piano-accompanied by Ethan Hayward. We are so proud of all of our singers! 🎉🎼🎤🏆
