We want to give a shoutout to our very own Amanda Aydt who just found out she was named the IBCA Coach of the Year! This is Amanda's third time receiving this award - once in 2017 and again in 2020. We are so grateful to have her coaching in our district. Here's a comment from Amanda...
“I am very honored and humbled to receive this award. There are a lot of great coaches. I am truly blessed and grateful to receive this honor. This wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for a lot of people who helped me get here. I would like to thank God. He should get all the glory. I would like to thank my husband, Brendan, and my children Maria (5), Conor (3), and Luke (11 months) for all of their support, my Mom and Dad, my brother Brett, and all of my family who have always supported me throughout the years. I would also like to thank all the coaches I’ve played for and worked with over the years, and my assistant coaches Troy Haacke and Anthony Hupp for all of their help. Thanks to Mr. Vieth and all the administrators for giving me the opportunity to coach here in the Mattoon school district. I would like to thank all my players for all of their hard work and dedication. The players are the ones who came to practice ready to work hard every day. They all did their jobs and executed our game plans. So I have to give credit to the players. This is a team award.”

MHS students will get to have their first positive incentive reward for the school year on March 25th. Students have been awarded weekly points for not accumulating tardies each day, not accumulating unexcused absences, and for their GPA. Students receiving the reward will get to go to AMC Theatres during the school day and pick to watch either "The Lost City", "Spiderman-No Way Home", "The Batman", or "Uncharted". Each qualifying student was emailed a google form and permission slips. Slips are due tomorrow (Friday, March 18th).

Juniors and any Senior still needing to take the SAT School Day will test at Mattoon High School on Wednesday, March 23rd. This test is required for graduation.
Students taking the test are required to check in to their testing room at 8:45 am. Late arrivals will not be allowed to test per state guidelines.
Students will NOT be allowed to go to their lockers on test day. They must bring 2 - # 2 pencils, a photo ID, and an acceptable calculator.
They are encouraged to leave their cell phone and any electronics at home that day.
Students will be dismissed for the day once testing is complete and materials are collected.
If students need to ride the bus or need a lunch, they need to notify the MHS office by Friday, March 18th. Buses will pick up students at normal dismissal time.

MHS G.O.O.D. (Group of Optimistic Deeds) greeted students as they entered MHS yesterday morning and offered students a breakfast bar, Pop-Tarts, or a small snack to start their Friday on a positive note! Student members of G.O.O.D have organized morning greeters from different groups to continue to spread positivity and shine the spotlight on the clubs, organizations, and sports that are available to our students.

The Mattoon High School Pride of the Green Wave Band and Choir made school history this past Saturday at the IHSA State Solo and Ensemble Contest at Heritage High School.
For the first time, each Mattoon High School entry received a First Place rating!
The following students under the direction of Angi Dallas, Mattoon High School Choir director, received First Place ratings in the solo category: Madeline Cohoon, Sadie Brazzell, Shaylin Sparks and Trinity Crowe.
The following students under the direction of Todd Black, Mattoon High School Band Director, received First Place ratings in the solo category: Brie Armstrong, Bryce Wofford, Chase Armstrong, Gabe Freeman, Keenan Kersh, Kristofer Jacobs, Kyla Abbott, Luke Ferris, Nate Huddleston, and in the ensemble category Mason Holland and Luke Ferris received a first place rating.
At the end of the competition, which included participants from 28 schools with a mixture of Big 12 and Apollo and other conference programs, each judge gave an award entitled "Best of Day" for the best performance that they heard in their room. Out of the 3 rooms that Mattoon High School Band students performed in they were awarded 2 Best of Day Awards. In the upper brass room, Luke Ferris was awarded Best of Day for his trumpet solo. In the percussion room, Gabe Freeman was awarded the Best of Day Award for his snare drum solo.

Mattoon School District will dismiss two and a half hours early today Feb. 24, 2022 due to forecasted weather. Lunches will be served. All school activities are canceled including YMCA After School Program and Stretch Time.

The MHS Student Tech Leadership team headed over to Williams Elementary to collaborate with the youngest of our district tech leaders. The two teams swapped ideas and tips as they collaborated on future needs that could be met.
