This past weekend, Brock Davee competed at the Cross Country State meet in Peoria. Brock placed 13th with a time of 15:13. This qualified him for All State! Congratulations, Brock!

Students from Mrs. Decker’s Math 3 class created Geometric Art as a culminating project for their unit on circles. Students were able to choose from string art, origami, or 3D optical illusion drawings.

MHS Math teacher Lesley Woods received a mini-grant for $200 from the Central Illinois Rural Teacher Corps in order to get a class set of headphones. As Math 1 continues to utilize self-paced learning, the need for headphones for each student has grown. Congrats to Ms. Woods for her efforts to enhance learning for all students!

Mattoon High School Pride of the Green Wave Marching Band had one of their finest finishes in school history at a collegiate competition at Western Illinois University this past Saturday, October 23.

The Pride of the Green Wave Percussion Section was undefeated in all competitions this 2021 marching season.
The band is under the direction of Todd Black with assistants Angi Dallas, Chris Keniley and Haley Beals.
This was the final marching band competition, before retirement, for Todd Black and Angi Dallas.
Mr. Black would like to thank all present and past students, band staff, band parents, school staff, administration, school board members and community members for all of their support.

The Wavette Dance Team is having tryouts for a basketball team plus our competitive teams. This is the first time they have ever had a mid-season tryout.

Congratulations to the 2020-2021 girls basketball team for their academic success last season in achieving the top GPA in our division in the state of Illinois. They made the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Academic All State Team.

MHS will be hosting a Leader in Me Family Night on Tuesday October 26 from 6-7pm. Please join us to learn more about the Leader in Me programs that are benefitting our students at Mattoon High School.

This past weekend, the Wavette and Purrfections Dance Teams had members compete at the IDTA Start the Beat competition held at Bloomington High School. All competing dancers from Mattoon placed and medaled in their categories. In the duo competition: Ellie Miller and Brooklynn Redfern from MMS
1st place; Audrey Dodge and Ally Nelson from MHS 3rd place in the JV divison; Justyce Prather and Katie Clatfelter 3rd place in the Varsity division.
In solos, Ellie Miller from MMS and Lexi Miller from MHS both earned 1st place in their divisons.
