The ASL I and II students learned, practiced, and performed Christmas carols. On Thursday evening, December 16th, several attended the EIASE deaf and hard of hearing annual Christmas program to perform. And, on Friday, December 17th, each class performed for staff in the building.

The last day for Mattoon High School's first semester Power Hour is Thursday, December 16, 2021. MHS Power Hour will resume Monday, January 10, 2022. Students interested in attending Power Hour second semester can enroll by contacting Mrs. Stewart at terastewart@mcusd2.com.

Students across the district participated in ILMEA at Eastern Illinois Unversity on November 20. Maddie Cohoon and Judi Connett participated in the Concert Choir, as well, and Parker Spear and Natasha Carter sang in the Jazz Choir! MCUSD2 was well represented by outstanding musicians! Congratulations to all!

Students across the district participated in ILMEA at Eastern Illinois Unversity on November 20. Brie Armstrong, Nate Huddleston, Kris Jacobs, and Keenan Kersh represented MHS in he Concert Band under the direction of Lieutenant Colonel Bryan Miller, conductor of the Air National Guard of the Midwest Air Force Band. In addition, Chase Armstrong and Gabriel Freeman participated in the Orchestra under the direction of Lara Plummer from Alton High School. MCUSD2 was well represented by outstanding musicians! Congratulations to all!

This past weekend, Brock Davee competed at the Cross Country State meet in Peoria. Brock placed 13th with a time of 15:13. This qualified him for All State! Congratulations, Brock!

Students from Mrs. Decker’s Math 3 class created Geometric Art as a culminating project for their unit on circles. Students were able to choose from string art, origami, or 3D optical illusion drawings.

MHS Math teacher Lesley Woods received a mini-grant for $200 from the Central Illinois Rural Teacher Corps in order to get a class set of headphones. As Math 1 continues to utilize self-paced learning, the need for headphones for each student has grown. Congrats to Ms. Woods for her efforts to enhance learning for all students!

Mattoon High School Pride of the Green Wave Marching Band had one of their finest finishes in school history at a collegiate competition at Western Illinois University this past Saturday, October 23. Class 4A Awards Winds Music - 1st Percussion - 1st Band - 2nd Over-All Classes Grand Champion Percussion Award The Pride of the Green Wave Percussion Section was undefeated in all competitions this 2021 marching season. The band is under the direction of Todd Black with assistants Angi Dallas, Chris Keniley and Haley Beals. This was the final marching band competition, before retirement, for Todd Black and Angi Dallas. Mr. Black would like to thank all present and past students, band staff, band parents, school staff, administration, school board members and community members for all of their support.
