Several Mattoon High School Chorus students attended the Solo and Ensemble Contest at Heritage High School in Broadlands, Illinois on Saturday, March 2nd. The students performed a variety of solos and duets ranging from classical and folk tunes to contemporary and musical theater. MHS Choir received 11 first place rankings and 1 second place ranking. The students are under the direction of Mr. Zach Smith and were piano-accompanied by Ethan Hayward. We are excited to announce that the Sarah Bush Lincoln helicopter will land on the MHS practice football field around noon on Friday, March 8 for the Life Flights Session portion of Futures Day. 🚁 Futures Day provides many opportunities for all of our students through personalized experiences in pace, interests, and strengths to expand learning beyond the classroom walls! Students will learn about college and career paths after high school. A lot of progress has been made in the last couple of weeks at the 2024 Building Trades home. Last week, students prepared the subfloor to lay down vinyl flooring in the laundry room and engineered hardwood in the kitchen, dining room, and living room. They also applied knockdown texture in the garage and began painting the walls and ceilings. 🏠 This week, they have started installing doors, painting, and installing baseboards, window casing, and finishing the engineered hardwood. They have also completed much of the wiring. 🛠 We are thankful for the opportunity these students have to make a difference in this community and be a part of building a beautiful home for some lucky family! 👨‍👩‍👦
