Celebrating Steve Conlon as he recently received recognition for being selected to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Class of 2022! The ceremony took place on Saturday, April 30. Please help us in congratulating him! Mattoon Middle School Athletic Director Jamie Sharp has known Steve for going on 22 years. "He's the G.O.A.T. when it comes to MMS coaches," said Sharp. "Steve has never been about the scoreboard", said Sharp. "Believe me, he comes to compete and wants to win, but his focus has always been on developing the person and the athlete, helping them be a good person in whatever they do in life, and helping them perform at their best on the field or on the court. In Miss Mixell's 6th grade ELA classroom, students are creating butterflies to serve as part of a larger butterfly garden. Each student is also writing a Haiku poem, which will be used as the border for the collaborative butterfly garden! #MCUSD2 #Mattoon #MMS

Mrs. Campbell's students at MMS learned about Greek City-states, Sparta and Athens. Sparta was a warlike city-state that prized courage and obedience above all else. Athens prized the mind and education. Then they chose which one they wanted to "live in." For the next two weeks, they engaged in feats of knowledge and strength to earn points for their city-state. They did a strength challenge between the Spartans and Athenians. They showed their skills doing push-ups, sit-ups, and arm wrestling. Spartans earned the most points and won our Peloponnesian War! Oddly enough, the Spartans won the ACTUAL Peloponnesian War too. #MCUSD2 #Mattoon #MMS

The DIY of the week at the MMS Media Center is May Day “baskets” for residents at Odd Fellow Rebekah Home. Students are making a craft personalized to each resident! Mrs. Wilson helped organize this and provided the names of residents so we can help spread some cheer. #MCUSD2
