
Good luck to the MMS Purrfections as they head to IDTA State in Springfield this weekend! The girls will be competing in both their Pom & Jazz routines. Ellie Miller & Brooklyn Redfern will also be performing their “Start the Beat” 1st place solo/duet. Good luck to all Mattoon dancers this weekend!


Congratulations to Molly Stuart and Alannea Shaw for completing all of the grammar units on Lexia PowerUp. These ladies set goals to complete these units and spent a lot of time and energy until they met those goals. Way to keep the End in Mind, Molly and Alannea!


We would like to give a special shout-out to our custodial team. They have been diligently working to get things cleaned up and prepared for our return. We greatly appreciate all of their hard work and dedication to ensuring the safety of our students and staff.





eLearning Days Announced for MCUSD #2 Schools
Mattoon Schools will be transitioning learning to eLearning Days Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (February 2nd-4th). All practices, events, and extracurriculars for those days will be postponed.

Your course assignments and directions will be located in your individual Schoology courses by 10 am each day.
Schools will be open for internet access in the evenings next week Monday-Wednesday (2/7-2/9):
Elementary Schools: 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Middle and High Schools: 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

A few students from the Mass Media class at MMS, under the direction of Ingrid Minger, visited the YMCA to test out the new eSports options! While there, they filmed a promotional video to encourage other middle school students to join the new eSports league.

Top three will go on to participate in the Coles County Spelling Bee on February 2nd at Oakland Elementary School. We are so proud of all of our Spelling Bee participants and their hard work, we look forward to them representing MMS at the Coles County Spelling Bee!


6th grade Science classes recently participated in an escape room focused on learning about plate tectonics. Students completed various tasks unlocking secret codes showcasing their knowledge competing against their classmates.



The Student Reading committee representatives: Emi Ballinget, Kylie Frederick and Morgan Cole presented the Read Across Mattoon book to the Rotary Club. More details about the book will be coming soon!


8th grade FACS students are starting their egg baby projects today! Students are learning about the development and care of infants and children by taking care of an egg "baby" for the week!

Douglas-Hart Nature Center is offering free classes for our students! The first session will be Basic First Aid, on January 18th, from 5-7. These will continue every third Tuesday of the month until May. This is a free opportunity with dinner provided. The MMS Mass Media class has been hard at work taking orders for custom shirts, bulletin cuts, and holiday orders. Yesterday these two leaders helped cut over 46 sheets of bulletin board letters!
