MMS is hosting 6th Grade Orientation night on Tuesday, May 2nd from 5:30-7:00 PM. We can't wait to welcome our new Wildcats!
We hope everyone had a great Spring Break! We can't wait to welcome students back tomorrow (4/11).
The Riddle Elementary Student Lighthouse Team recently donated $854 worth of toys from an Amazon wishlist to the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.
The team worked hard to establish their "why". Their goal was to "provide comfort to children in a hospital."
They decided to host a Market Days event held in February. The team worked, on their own time, to create handmade items to sell. They set up their items on the Riddle stage to sell their items alongside the Junior Student Lighthouse Team, who helped to market the items for sale. These items, including pet rocks, hand-drawn posters, candy grams, paintings, jewelry, and more, brought in over a whopping $850!
The team researched hospitals and chose to partner with Child Life in Indianapolis. The students called the hospital to find out how to best serve them. They were directed to an Amazon wishlist filled with a ton of toys and items for their patients. The team filled out purchase orders to place orders for their gifts.
The students were able to donate 47 toys and items of need to the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital! The team would like to thank the Riddle Elementary School community for the generous donations made to their cause.

Wishing you a happy Spring break!
The MHS Tech Leadership students have been collaborating with other teams throughout the district at Riddle, Williams, and MMS. Each tech team has collaborated on what is working well within each respective team, what they enjoy about their leadership opportunities, and areas that they would like to continue to grow.
Students in Mr. Young's 8th Grade STEAM class at MMS are building Pinball Machines from scratch! With a budget of only $300 STEAM Bucks, these students are expected to focus on meeting the criteria for the project to be successful while staying within the constraints of the project. Using concepts like Forces in Motion, measurement, the 4 C's of 21st Century Learning, and viewing videos on the history of Pinball Machines, students are finishing up designing these Compound Machines utilizing the Simple Machines in daily life to build their own Pinball Machines. Students are creating the mechanisms for the flippers to be used with cardboard, popsicle sticks, and rubber bands. Way to go Wildcats!

Students in MMS Mass Media, STEAM Club, and Mattoon Innovation Team (MIT) have been working with our Instructional Technology Coach, Claire Vogel and Media Specialist, Ingrid Minger on increasing Computer Science and Computational Thinking in a variety of ways over the past few months. Based on student interest, teams have been collaborating to code a light display at the MMS Winter Wonderland event, fly drones to capture and produce media, and explore robotics with Sphero RVRs, MicroBits, and VEX robots.
Through a partnership with EIU, Mattoon Middle School was selected to be a Pathways to the Future Pilot Program to receive a grant to purchase new technology to support our students' learning. We are very excited to see what the future holds with these technology learning opportunities!
