Mattoon Middle School

Shout out to Cole at MMS! He has been instrumental in assembling the new hydroponic systems for the Ag department at the middle school. Cole has been working through the many pieces and not only assembling, but working with the 8th grade Ag class and leading their assembly of the 5 hydroponic towers. We are thankful for his leadership and for all those who have been working hard on these towers!

The MMS band is selling trash bags to help fundraise for their Spring trip. There are four different sizes and checks can be written to the MMS band. Orders must be turned in by Friday (December 9th).

The MMS Christmas concert is scheduled for next Tuesday, December 6th at 6:30 PM. Band students need to be at the school by 6:00 pm.

The Mattoon Middle School Student Council recently teamed up with the Charleston Middle School Student Council to raise money for Three Oaks Middle School in Ft. Myers, FL as they were displaced by the hurricane. We are so proud of their partnership and work on this!

Scholastic Bowl informational meetings will be held Tuesday, November 29th, and Wednesday, November 30th from 3:30- 4:00 PM in Mr. Koon's room. On Friday November 18th, thirteen student council members attended a leadership conference at Moulton Middle School in Shelbyville. Students learned leadership skills, met student council members from other schools’ student councils, shared ideas among one another, participated in group dynamic activities, & got motivated and enthused! #MCUSD2 #Mattoon #MMS

A quick reminder from MMS Wrestling coaches: Monday, November 29, will be the first day of practice. Practice will be held in the MMS cafeteria from 3:45-5:00. Schedules will be handed out at practice. A quick reminder from Coach V and Coach Brown at MMS: If you are interested in trying out for the volleyball team, please make sure your parent/guardian signs you up on the MMS 8to18 website. You also need a valid physical turned into the Main Office prior to trying out. 7th grade tryouts are Tuesday, Nov 29th from 3:45-5:30pm and Wednesday, Nov 30th 6-7:30am in the Hash Gym. 8th grade tryouts are Thursday Dec 1st 3:45-5:45pm in the Hash gym and Friday Dec 2nd 6-7:30am in the Wildcat Gym. Congrats to the MMS 7th grade Basketball girls on winning the first round of the IESA 7-4A Regionals on Saturday! They defeated Charleston 28-5. They play again tomorrow (11/22), at 6pm against the #1 seed Mt Zion in the second round of play. Best of luck girls! #MCUSD2 #Mattoon #MMS

Students at Mattoon Middle School collected items in their Essentials classes to create Care Packages in an effort to honor our local veterans. Students creatively designed bags, and then worked collaboratively to fill them. Donated items included chapstick, hand sanitizer, sweet and salty treats, and drink mix packets. Mattoon Middle School art students in 6th and 7th grade were invited to participate in the annual Peace Poster Contest sponsored by the Mattoon Lions Club. This year's theme was Lead with Compassion. Winning artwork was selected based on originality, artistic merit, and expression of the theme. Lion Jeff Nelson and Lion Leann Brackney presented awards to the following five students: Avery P. (First place), Erikah S. (Second), Kalia G. (Third), Aubrey V. (Honorable Mention), and Bella B. (Honorable Mention). Avery's artwork will continue on to compete in the next level of judging.
